I developed into an artist as the separate “lives” of dance and art emerged together. I began at an early age as a dancer, being submerged completely in movement, mental and visual strength, as well as conveying a specific presence.
I am the sole owner of CANYON ARTS STUDIO in Sherman Oaks, CA. It's an intimate setting where artists are encouraged to expand, explore and hone their abilities. I teach a variety of techniques and have workshops monthly as well as private instruction. I am a selling artist represented by various galleries, showing in different states. For me, the creative process consists of feeling and emotion, and not just a reliance on what is seen. It consists of textures, colors and forms but it also consists of my mood at the time and my impression of that which I am painting.
I will be offering small, ready to hang, one of a kind Encaustic Artworks. These are colorful and mostly abstract. Encaustic paint is a mixture of beeswax, damar crystals and pigment which is kept molten on a heated palette. It is applied to a prepared wooden surface then reheated to fuse each layer of paint after every application. It is impervious to moisture, doesn’t deteriorate, yellow or darken. It can be polished to a high gloss, molded, sculpted, textured and can be combined with collage materials. I work with a variety of tools and materials such as razor blades, sand paper, etching and carving tools, oil sticks and oil paints, heat guns, torches and anything she can find that will create a mark on the wax.
