Jill Sykes is a painter living in Los Angeles. Her work is concentrated on botanical forms with an emphasis on negative space, color, and surface. Her paintings have been featured in gallery exhibitions throughout Los Angeles, as well as the “Yucca Forest” installation at the Museum of Art + History in 2014. “Sycamore House,” a continuous shadow leaf design that was sand-blasted onto the exterior walls of a newly built home in Pacific Palisades was completed in 2009. “I am drawn to the negative spaces of branches and leaves; the elegant energy and random patterning of random forms create a visual dialog between figuration and abstraction. We as artists create objects that nourish and enrich existence, and as such what we do, consciously or not, has a profound effect.” Santa Monica College of Design, Art & Architecture, Santa Monica, CA Academy of Art/Lone Mountain College, San Francisco, CA Otis College of Art & Design, Los Angeles, CA
